40 Ideas Revisited: Surplus App

We revisit ‘40 Ideas for London’, a call out for ideas to shape a better London sketched on napkins. James Davies, Paper House Project, proposes an incentivised app that redistributes usable materials.

‘How do you feel when you walk past a building site and see a skip full of usable materials that are destined for landfill?

Over-orders, offcuts, unused materials that are not required for the job or can’t be stored for the next project due to logistics, cost or lack of storage space. What if these surplus materials could be re-used on other building sites nearby?

A free-to-use incentivised app that lets you advertise and redistribute usable materials, saving money and reducing landfill. The more you share, the more points you collect, which can then be spent at participating builders’ merchants.’
